The certified physical therapists at Restore PT generally use four types of manual therapy techniques:

  • Soft tissue Mobilization (skilled passive pressure to soft tissues of the body including muscles, ligaments, and tendons)

  • Joint Manipulation or Mobilization (releasing joint restrictions to decrease pain and spasms, and to improve joint mobility and function)

  • Muscle Energy Techniques (direct hand guided techniques to correct alignment and release restrictions to a specific joints such as those in the hip, spine or shoulder)

  • Neuromuscular techniques (directed toward correcting muscular movement patterns to improve proper muscle recruitment and diminish substitutions)

We offer these specialized manual therapy techniques in Boulder to help optimize the healing process and the ability to move freely ultimately improving physical function.

What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is a technique that uses sterile thin “dry” needles – a needle without medication to relieve pain. The dry needle is inserted through the skin into specific parts of the muscle, known as trigger points to help release the trigger points and diminish pain.

Unlike acupuncture, dry needling is based on modern Western medicine, through the study of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems. At Restore PT, we offer dry needling in Boulder to help patients suffering from both acute and chronic pain.

Who can benefit from Dry Needling? Dry needling is appropriate for anyone who suffers from a variety of pain problems, including:

  • Overuse Injuries

  • Headaches

  • Back Pain & Neck

  • Muscle Spasms and Strains

  • Fibromyalgia

Dry needling is a safe procedure, and the most common side effects are mild skin bruising and muscle soreness.
